Why a Bespoke Garage Door may be the Solution

If you’ve heard companies telling you they can make you a bespoke garage door, you should check exactly what they mean.

Usually, bespoke garage doors are just ‘made to order’ in their sizing. But did you know you can get an entirely bespoke garage door?

Everything in a garage door can be made to your design – the materials, colour and even the mechanism. As long as it meets safety regulations, you can have a garage door that looks however you like.

So what garage doors are available? We’ll go through the different types and what you can do to make them perfect for your home.

Up and over garage doors

Up and over garage doors (see picture above) do what it sounds like they do. They move up and over when they open. This door will look great in timber and most companies will be happy to create any design for you.

You can also have a prefinished door chassis which will help your door move smoothly in the frame. It can also hold a lot more weight, so if you want a solid wood garage door that will be heavy this type of chassis is perfect.

Sectional garage doors

Sectional garage doors have great insulating properties and weather sealing, as well as a great mechanism.

The good news is you can have almost any design for a sectional garage door if you want it in timber. And if you want a steel door, there are slightly fewer but still plenty of options.

What’s more, if you need a larger garage door a sectional door will be able to spread the load much better than an up and over door.

So you should be all set if you have a large garage but still want the convenience of a sectional door.

Side hinged garage doors

Side hinged doors are also great if you want a bespoke garage door. You can have any design in timber, and lots of different colours or window designs if you want steel or GRP.

If you opt for a timber side hinged door, you can create all sorts of interesting shapes. For example, you could create a door with arches at the top.

You also won’t need to worry about how heavy the wood is as they open out to the side.

Round the corner garage doors

Round the corner garage doors are also perfect to design to your exact needs. As long as you use timber, you won’t have any problems, and you can even submit your own drawings to some companies.

Again, there’s no need to worry about the weight – the panels can slide easily and spread their weight so you can choose a good solid wood if you like.

So what design are you going to choose for your bespoke garage door? And what style are you going to go for? With so many options, you should find something that suits you in no time.
